A union campaigning for a new public holiday in NSW argues the state has fewer days off than others and is proposing a spring long weekend.

A union representing retail, fast-food and warehouse workers has launched a campaign for a new September public holiday in NSW, arguing employees in the state receive fewer public holidays than elsewhere in Australia.

The push is being led by the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association (SDA), which is proposing a “Family and Community Day” long weekend at the start of spring.
