“Missed the mark”: Nike pulls Boston marathon ad after online backlash

Nike has removed controversial signage posted in Boston ahead of its world-famous marathon, after online critics said its “Runners Welcome. Walkers Tolerated” message discredited slower athletes.

Runner’s World reports the American running shoe company displayed the sign outside a retail store in the lead-up to the event on Monday.

But it quickly garnered negative attention, with some commenters suggesting Nike sent the wrong message to everyday walkers and aspirational marathoners.
