A Victorian business has paid nearly $40,000 in penalties after allegedly sharing influencer reviews to Instagram without disclosing they were paid ads.

It is the first time the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has leveled hefty financial penalties for allegedly dodgy influencer reviews, a growing area of concern for the competition watchdog.

The ACCC on Tuesday confirmed Tomsem Consolidated Pty Ltd, trading as PhotobookShop, paid a sum of $39,600 in response to two infringement notices.

PhotobookShop sells photobooks, wall art, calendars, and other types of customisable giftware and home decor.
