Australia’s gender equality gains mask a growing public divide

Australia has reached its highest-ever global ranking for gender equality, but new data shows nearly half of Australians believe the push for equal rights has already gone far enough.

Australia has recorded its highest global ranking on equality while still needing major steps to improve health, safety and workplace outcomes for women. 

But the number of Australians who believe gender equality has gone far enough has risen significantly since 2019. 

The latest status of women report card, released before International Women’s Day on March 8, puts Australia at 13th globally for gender equality.
