Anzac Day falls on Saturday, April 25 in 2026, marking the 111th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings. While the day itself is observed nationwide, whether Australians get a long weekend or just a single day off depends on where they live this year.

This comes down to how each state and territory sets its public holidays. Unlike most public holidays, Anzac Day is often treated in legislation as a fixed day of observance. This is why some states avoid automatically creating a substitute public holiday when Anzac Day falls on a weekend.
